North East Fife Riding Club One Day Event at Kinnaird on:
Sunday, 22nd August

NEFRC are holding their ODE here and this year there are classes for both adults and juniors at all three heights of approx. 3', 2'6" and 2'. As before, the cross country will run over a lengthened course rather than the usual training course, and entries are being taken now. Schedules can be found on www.nefrc.org.uk or click here. Entries close on Monday, 16th August. Catering will be available on the day with any profits going to the Red Cross skin camouflage service at Ninewells Hospital which provides advice and materials to help hide scars or burns.

Please note that BRC rules state that elimination in the S/J means that you cannot go XC. (However if this happens, then depending on numbers and conditions, we may allow you to try the XC another day at a reduced rate).

Le Trec

The Le Trec training sessions and competition organised by the local BHS was great fun with a variety of scary obstacles, including a wooden walkway and low branches to be negotiated. There were tests of obedience - will your horse stay still if you let go of him in the middle of a field? At least they were in a roped enclosure, and the long grass was a help for those with healthy appetites! Finally, there was a control of paces section, where we had to canter as slowly as possible and then walk as fast as possible without breaking pace. It was definitely not as easy as it sounded.

Dairsie Dash

Well done to everyone who took part in this year's Dairsie Dash. It seemed to be a great success and the weather was perfect for it, so we hope you all enjoyed the day. Results should now have been sent out to participating schools by the Active Schools Co-ordinators.

Lessons over the course

The instruction sessions held over the course have proved popular and we hope to get more arranged. Keep an eye on this page for details.

If you would like to take part, or to get more information e-mail or phone Lesley on 01334 653 306 with your details.

We will need - your name, contact number, age if under 16, indication of jumping height and an idea of the level of experience of you and your horse to help us make up suitable groups. These will be made up of similar abilities as much as possible but let us know if some of you want to ride together or if there is an earliest/latest time you can come.

World Challenge trip to China

Congratulations to Aniela Henry who won the lucky date competition (27th September), and many thanks to everyone who supported it and all the other fund-raising events.

Along with fellow school pupils, she was able to experience trekking through some of the world's most spectacular scenery, and their project work in a children's home was particularly rewarding as the staff and children were so grateful for the group's help.
The home cares for children whose parents are in jail and as, technically, they are not orphans they fall through the government system so the home has to operate mainly on donations.
The teenagers cleared stones and rubble to increase the size of a garden area for vegetable growing, did painting work, including a wall mural, entertained the children and also donated games, materials and books for school work as well as leaving a cash donation from their group funds.

Yvonne would like to thank everyone who helped in any way with all her fund raising beforehand to make the trip possible, and she was particularly grateful to have had sponsorship for her abseil from the Titan crane in Clydebank (150 scary feet high!)

The support she received was much appreciated, and special thanks go to:-

Mini Breaks

If you are coming from further afield why not treat yourself to a mini-break? You are welcome to use our facilities over a couple of days or more. Stabling and/or grazing is available for your horse while you camp (or stay nearby in a comfy B&B).

We're delighted to report that Strathearn Riding Club and Almond Riding Club have both held successful camps at Kinnaird this summer. Making full use of our facilities, some chose to stable their horses while others used our grazing, with rider accommodation in lorries, tents or B&B. Both groups were lucky with the weather and the mix of instruction, riding for fun, mini competition and socialising seemed to work well!

Almond Riding Club even brought their own professional photographer – check out their web-site at www.almondridingclub.org.uk and their July newsletter for a report and link to some super photos.

Not so lucky weather-wise, was the birthday party group who enjoyed their afternoon despite the rain!

Pick-a-fence

Apart from a memorable torrential downpour our Pick-a-fence 2009 was a great success! We will be organising another one later this year so watch this space for full details of Kinnaird's Pick-a-fence 2010.

Dairsie runnersDairsie Dash

Last year we held the 'Dairse Dash' at Kinnaird. This running competition took place with teams from local primary schools for both the main races and the fun run. Pictured along side is the team from host school Dairsie along with their classmates.

Cross Country Schooling Nights - interested?
Throughout 2010 we'll be organising another selection of cross country schooling nights. They've proved a great way of practising round a full course in a friendly, non-competitive environment. If you'd like to find out more about these and how you can get involved do get in touch.
